Illinois Central baseball beats Glen Oaks in Game 1
Cougars rally with big third inning to pull ahead.
Peoria, Ill. — The Glen Oaks Community College baseball team dropped Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader at Illinois Central College, 15-6.
Glen Oaks erupted for six runs in the top of the second inning. Erick Marin and Andrew Onuegbu reached base on infield errors and Marin would advance to third on a fielder's choice. With one out, McCullan Greene singled to short to score Marin. Steven Drewyor followed with a single to right to push in two more runs.
Brayden Clark hit a line drive to right to load the bases for the Vikings and Jayden Hamilton delivered with a grounder that scored Simmons. Andrew Thorpe added an RBI double to left to cap the inning and give GOCC a 6-0 advantage.
Central Illinois got two back in the bottom of the second but really turned things around with a seven-run third inning. The Cougars tacked on three more runs in the fifth and another three in the sixth.
Jackson Stewart threw 2 ⅓ innings in the start, allowing four earned runs on three hits. He struck out four batters and walked four. Brody Wardenburg was charged with the loss after surrendering two earned runs in the third. Clark tossed three innings with five hits and seven runs allowed (three earned), and Gavin Wickham worked the final inning and did not give up a hit.
