Glen Oaks baseball roared ahead early to take game one 12-5 Thursday in their home opener against Community Christian. The Vikings scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control from the outset.
GOCC added three runs in the third inning, one in the fourth, and one in the sixth. The Lions had three runs in the fifth and two in the seventh. The Vikings had 10 hits while holding Community Christian to seven.
On the mound, Samuel Dunlavy pitched 5.1 innings with one strikeout, allowing five hits, three earned runs, and four walks. Andrew Thorpe finished with 1.2 innings of relief, allowing two hits and two unearned runs with two strikeouts.
Peyton Simmons had three of the 10 Glen Oaks hits, including a double. Simmons, Brayden Clark, and Jayden Hamilton all had two RBI and one run. Steven Drewyor, Erick Marin, Brady Mescher, and Daniel Vizthum each scored twice. Mescher had a double, single, and a sacrifice fly.
