Glen Oaks baseball was defeated 8-3 Thursday in a nine-inning conference game at Kalamazoo Valley. The Cougars only outhit the Vikings 8-7, but they were able to cash in with more walks.
Kalamazoo Valley took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning and added two more in the fourth. The Cougars scored once in the fifth with their final three runs in the seventh. Glen Oaks' runs were solo spots in the fifth, seventh, and ninth innings.
Andrew Onuegbu and Andrew Thorpe both had doubles for the Vikings. Both Thorpe and Daniel Vizthum had two hits on the day with the latter adding two RBI. Erick Marin scored twice with the other run by Jayden Hamilton. Marin and Steven Drewyor had the other hits.
Jackson Stewart started on the mound and struck out two in four innings with three hits, four runs, two earned runs, and three walks allowed. Brady Mescher tossed the remaining four innings and struck out two, surrendering five hits, four runs, three earned runs, and five walks.
The defeat puts Glen Oaks baseball at 1-3 in the MCCAA Western Conference and 4-19 overall.
