Kalamazoo defeats Glen Oaks in baseball twin bill
Vikings fall at home in MCCAA play.
Glen Oaks baseball was defeated 9-3 and 11-2 Thursday in the home half of their series with Kalamazoo Valley. The Vikings wrap the series at KVCC Friday. The losses put Glen Oaks at 4-15 in MCCAA Western Conference play and 7-31 overall.
Game one was even at 2-2 after five innings. Both teams scored a solo run in the second inning. The Cougars went ahead with one in the fourth, but the Vikings matched in the fifth. In the top of the sixth, KVCC exploded with seven runs. GOCC could only get one back in the bottom half.
The six Glen Oaks hits were spread between six players. Brayden Clark, Jayden Hamilton, Steven Drewyor, Peyton Simmons, Brody Wardenburg, and McCullan Greene each had singles. Drewyor and Greene added one RBI each. Simmons, Erick Marin, and Daniel Vizthum scored the runs.
Andrew Onuegbu was the starting pitcher and went four innings with five strikeouts, allowing two hits, two runs, one earned run, and seven walks. KVCC broke through against the bullpen, getting four hits and taking advantage of four walks and an error in the sixth inning.
Kalamazoo Valley led from the start in game two with one run in the first inning, four in the second, and two in the fourth. Glen Oaks scored both of their runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The game stayed at 7-2 until the Cougars added their final four runs in the seventh inning. KVCC outhit GOCC 13-4.
Vizthum doubled and singled, scoring a run. Greene had a hit and run. Simmons had the other Viking hit. Drewyor and Marin each had an RBI.
Jackson Stewart was the starting pitcher, going 5.1 innings in the defeat. He struck out four while surrendering ten hits, seven runs, six earned runs, and two walks.
