Vikings make it a season sweep against LMC
GOCC nabs two wins on the road Saturday.
The Glen Oaks Community College baseball team is on a five-game winning streak after another sweep against Lake Michigan College Saturday. Following two wins at home Friday against LMC, the Vikings made it a season sweep Saturday on the road, improving to 15-16 overall and 6-6 in Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Conference play.
Game 1
Glen Oaks 5, Lake Michigan 4
Glen Oaks Community College snatched the lead late in their 5-4 baseball victory over host Lake Michigan College on Saturday. The game was tied at four in the top of the seventh when Logan O'Malley drew a walk, scoring one run.
Lake Michigan opened the scoring in the first after Smith doubled, scoring one run.
Glen Oaks jumped back into the lead in the top of the second inning after Peyton Simmons singled to right field, O'Malley hit a sacrifice fly, and Cohen Yoder tripled to center field, each scoring one run.
Harrell homered to right field, which helped LMC tie the game at three in the bottom of the second.
A single by Braeden Becker gave GOCC the lead, 4-3, in the top of the third.
Glen Oaks committed an error, which helped Lake Michigan tie the game at four in the bottom of the fifth.
Collin Yoder earned the win for the Vikings. The hurler allowed six hits and four runs (three earned) over six innings, striking out four and walking two. Ollier took the loss for LMC. The righty went seven innings, allowing five runs on nine hits, striking out eight and walking eight. Gavin Wickham collected the save.
Glen Oaks amassed nine hits in the game. O'Malley, the number eight hitter for the Vikings, led the way with two runs batted in. The outfielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Becker went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead GOCC in hits. Corbin White paced the squad with three walks. Overall, the team drew eight walks for the game.
Game 2
Glen Oaks 15, Lake Michigan 4
Braeden Becker drove in five runs on two hits to lead Glen Oaks. Becker hit a home run to right field in the sixth inning, scoring three runs, and singled in the first inning, scoring two.
The Vikings got on the board in the first inning after Becker singled, scoring two runs.
A double by Caleb Mallory extended the Glen Oaks lead to 4-1 in the top of the third inning. The Vikings scored two runs in the top of the fifth on a home run to left field by Andrew Onuegbu. Becker homered to right field, scoring three runs in the top of the sixth for GOCC.
Glen Oaks added five runs on five hits in the top of the seventh inning. Logan O'Malley singled, scoring one run, Steven Drewyor singled, scoring one run, Corbin White doubled, scoring one run, and Mallory doubled, scoring two runs.
Brady Mescher earned the win for GOCC with eight hits and four runs (three earned) over five and one-third innings, striking out two and walking none.
Glen Oaks tallied 13 hits in the game. Drewyor set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading the Vikings with three hits in four at bats. Onuegbu, Mallory, and White each collected multiple hits for Glen Oaks. Peyton Simmons, White, and Cohen Yoder led the team with two walks each. O'Malley stole two bases.
