Glen Oaks softball team snags win over Indiana University South Bend
Vikings split on the road
The Glen Oaks softball team rallied in Game 1 of a doubleheader at Indiana University South Bend Sunday for a 6-2 victory.
Ava Mejia laid down a sacrifice bunt, which helped Glen Oaks tie the game at two in the top of the sixth.
The Vikings made the score 6-2 in the top of the seventh after Sage Pruett doubled, scoring two runs, Sierra Carpenter doubled, scoring one run, and one run scored on another play.
Aimee Reinhardt pitched four innings in relief for Glen Oaks. The righty surrendered two hits and zero runs while, striking out one and walking one. Dakota Sigler led things off in the circle for Glen Oaks. The right-handed pitcher surrendered three hits and two runs (one earned) over three innings, striking out two and walking two.
Carpenter led Glen Oaks with three hits in four at bats. Pruett paced the Vikings with two runs batted in. Brady Lesher collected two hits for Glen Oaks in four at bats. The Vikings ran wild on the base paths, accumulating three stolen bases for the game.
In Game 2, IU-SB evened the day with a 10-2 win over GOCC.
Glen Oaks was first to get on the board in the fourth when Kacie Scott singled, scoring one run.
A double by Sierra Smith gave Glen Oaks the lead, 2-1, in the top of the fifth.
Indiana University South Bend jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning after Dani Gebhart doubled, and Jozie Ramer hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.
Indiana University South Bend scored seven runs on five hits in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Ava Mejia allowed two hits and one run (zero earned) over four innings, striking out two and walking none for the Vikings. Scott went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead GOCC in hits. Smith and Scott each drove in one run for Glen Oaks.
