Lake Michigan softball sweeps Glen Oaks
Red Hawks get 6-3 and 11-3 victories.
Glen Oaks softball began MCCAA Western Conference action Tuesday with a doubleheader at Lake Michigan College. The Vikings were defeated 6-3 in game one against the Red Hawks.
LMC opened with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Glen Oaks got one back in the fourth, then took the lead with two runs in the top of the sixth inning. The Red Hawks countered with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and held on in the seventh. LMC outhit GOCC 9-7 on the day.
Leading the offensive effort for Glen Oaks was Dakota Sigler, who smacked a two-run home run in the sixth inning. She also doubled and scored twice. Aimee Reinhardt also had a double. Aubrey Mealor had two hits. Sierra Smith and Kacie Scott also had singles and Melina Ragotzy scored a run.
Ava Mejia pitched a complete game for the Vikings. She struck out three while allowing nine hits, six earned runs, and three walks.
Glen Oaks dropped Game 2, 11-3, in Tuesday's doubleheader at Lake Michigan College. The Vikings scored solo runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. The Red Hawks scored three in the first, five in the fourth, and three in the fifth. The game was called after the fifth inning.
Aimee Reinhardt had two solo home runs and a single offensively for Glen Oaks. The Vikings had six hits in total. Aubrey Mealor scored the other Glen Oaks run. Mealor, Kacie Scott, and Ava Mejia each had hits.
Dakota Sigler was the starting pitcher, but was chased in the first inning after walking five and allowing three runs while recording one out. Reinhardt pitched the rest of the game, giving up five hits, eight runs, six earned runs, three walks, and three strikeouts.
Tuesday's defeats put Glen Oaks at 0-2 to start MCCAA Western Conference play and 5-5 overall. The Vikings have a home league doubleheader set for Friday at 3 p.m. against Marian University's Ancilla.
