Vikings split with KVCC in softball tilt
Glen Oaks takes Game 2.
Glen Oaks softball split Thursday's doubleheader at Kalamazoo Valley. The Cougars took game one 4-0, but the Vikings bounced back for a 11-3 game two win. For the season, GOCC went 5-1 in their games against KVCC. The result keeps the Vikings in second place in the MCCAA Western Conference standings at 16-10. Glen Oaks softball is 21-13 overall.
In the first game, all four Cougar runs came in the bottom of the fifth inning, capped off by a three run home run. Kalamazoo Valley outhit the Vikings 8-1.
Jaden Adams had the lone hit for the Vikings. Dakota Sigler pitched 4.1 innings with seven hits, four earned runs, four walks, and five strikeouts. Aimee Reinhardt tossed the remaining 1.2 innings scoreless with two strikeouts and one hit allowed.
The bats came alive in game two with 13 hits for Glen Oaks. The scoring saw three runs in the third inning, four in the fourth, and another four in the fifth. All three Kalamazoo Valley runs were plated in the fifth. The game concluded after five innings.
Sigler had five RBI and scored twice thanks to a grand slam home run and a double. Kacie Scott scored thrice with a double, two singles, and two RBI. Melina Ragotzy was 3-3 and scored thrice. Adams doubled, scored, and drew two walks.
Reinhardt had two RBI on one hit with one run and one walk. Charlee Kyle also had a hit, run, and RBI. Aubrey Mealor had a hit and RBI and Brianna Wiley had a hit.
Ava Mejia pitched a complete game victory, striking out seven in five innings. She allowed four hits and three unearned runs.
Glen Oaks has a big test ahead next Thursday at first place Lansing Community College.
