Glen Oaks softball takes two at Jackson
Vikings pile up 24 runs in conference doubleheader.
Glen Oaks Community College swept a conference doubleheader at Jackson College on Tuesday, earning 11-3 and 13-9 victories.
Game 1
Glen Oaks Community College 11, Jackson College 3
Sophomore Grace Blanchard (SS) collected three hits in four at-bats to lead Glen Oaks to an 11-3 win over Jackson College in the opener.
Glen Oaks opened the scoring in the first inning when freshman Kourtney Zarycki (LF) grounded out to bring home a run. The Vikings extended their lead in the third as Zarycki tripled and freshman Grace Zimmerman (3B) followed with an RBI single.
Blanchard recorded three singles in the second, fifth, and seventh innings. Zimmerman, Blanchard, freshman Cassie Holland (CF), and Zarycki each drove in two runs.
Freshman Braylyn Hernandez (RF), freshman Hannah Brinks (1B), and freshman Kaidee Gonser (C) each collected multiple hits as Glen Oaks totaled 14 hits. The Vikings also drew five walks, stole three bases, and turned in a disciplined effort at the plate.
Sophomore Audrie Dugan (P) earned the win, allowing six hits and three runs (one earned) over seven innings while striking out three and walking one.
Jackson College was led by the Jets' Sparks with two hits in three at-bats. The Jets' Davenport and Decker each drove in a run.

Freshman Kaidee Gonser (C) collected four hits in five at-bats to lead Glen Oaks to a 13-9 win and complete the sweep.
Glen Oaks opened the scoring in the first inning when an error plated two runs and added another in the second on an RBI single by freshman Maddy Lewis (2B).
Jackson College took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the second on a groundout by the Jets and a two-run home run. After Glen Oaks tied the game in the third on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Grace Blanchard (SS), the Jets regained the lead, 7-4, in the fourth on a pair of RBI singles.
The Vikings responded in the fifth, scoring five runs on six hits to take a 9-7 lead. The key hit in the inning was a two-run double by freshman Hannah Brinks (1B).
Blanchard finished with three RBIs, while Zimmerman, Hernandez, Lewis, and freshman Elizabeth Flores (RF) each recorded multiple hits. Gonser added four singles, and freshman Kourtney Zarycki (LF) drew three walks and scored three runs.
Freshman Madi Hosbein (P) earned the win in relief, allowing three runs over two and two-thirds innings. Freshman Brooklynn Root (P) started the game, and Dugan closed with three innings, allowing two runs (one earned) and striking out four.
Glen Oaks totaled 16 hits, stole four bases, and turned a double play in the game. Jackson College recorded 14 hits, led by the Jets' Patterson with four hits, while the Jets also received multiple-hit performances from Swihart, Owen, Fairbanks, and Yoder.
