The Glen Oaks Community College softball team dropped both games of an MCCAA Western Conference doubleheader at Lake Michigan College on Wednesday, falling 10-2 in Game 1 and 12-1 in Game 2.
Game 1
Lake Michigan College took control early and pulled away for a 10-2 win over Glen Oaks in the opener. The Red Hawks scored two runs in the first inning and added three more in the second before breaking the game open with four runs in the fourth.
Freshman center fielder Cassie Holland led the Vikings with a hit and an RBI, while sophomore shortstop Grace Blanchard and freshman catcher Kaidee Gonser each recorded a hit and scored a run. Gonser also drove in a run for Glen Oaks.
Sophomore pitcher Audrie Dugan started in the circle, allowing nine runs (five earned) on eight hits over 3.2 innings while striking out six. Freshman infielder Madi Hosbein worked in relief.
Lake Michigan College finished with 11 hits, led by strong offensive production throughout the lineup, while Glen Oaks totaled four hits in the contest.
Game 2
Lake Michigan College completed the sweep with a 12-1 victory in the second game, using a nine-run second inning to take control.
Glen Oaks scored its lone run in the third inning. Freshman second baseman Maddy Lewis and freshman left fielder Kourtney Zarycki each recorded a hit for the Vikings, who finished with two hits in the game.
Freshman pitcher/first baseman Brooklynn Root started and took the loss, allowing 11 runs (two earned) over 1.2 innings. Holland returned to the circle in relief, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing one run.
The Red Hawks again totaled 11 hits and capitalized on early scoring opportunities to secure the run-rule victory.
