Glen Oaks Community College split a MCCAA Western Conference doubleheader with Lansing Community College on Saturday at home to move to 19-9 overall and remain in first place in the Western Conference with a 12-4 mark.
Game 1
Sophomore Audrie Dugan (P) was dominant in the circle, striking out 10 to lead Glen Oaks to a 4-2 victory over Lansing Community College. Dugan allowed three hits and two runs over seven innings while walking four.
Glen Oaks broke through in the fourth inning when Dugan homered to center field, scoring two runs. Lansing Community College answered in the top of the fifth, tying the game at 2-2 on a double by Lansing Community College and a single by Lansing Community College.
The Vikings regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth when freshman Maddy Lewis (2B) singled to drive in a run, making it 3-2. Glen Oaks added another run in the inning for insurance.
Dugan also led the offense with two RBIs while going 1-for-3. Lewis collected two hits in three at-bats. The Vikings were flawless defensively, committing no errors, with freshman Kaidee Gonser (C) recording a team-high 11 defensive chances.
Game 2
Despite falling behind early, Glen Oaks nearly completed a comeback before dropping a 7-6 decision to Lansing Community College.
Lansing Community College took control in the first inning, scoring four runs on a sacrifice fly, a single, and a two-run double. The Stars added another run in the second inning on a double to extend the lead to 5-2.
Glen Oaks began to chip away in the third inning when freshman Kourtney Zarycki (LF) hit a two-run home run to center field. The Vikings tied the game at 5-5 in the fifth inning when sophomore Audrie Dugan (P) singled to the left side of the infield to drive in a run.
Lansing Community College responded in the sixth inning, breaking the tie with an RBI single and adding another run on a second single to take a 7-5 lead.
Sophomore Grace Blanchard (SS) hit a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the sixth to bring Glen Oaks within one, but the Vikings were unable to complete the comeback.
Zarycki led the offense with three RBIs while going 2-for-2. Lewis, Dugan, and Zarycki each recorded two hits for Glen Oaks.
In the circle, freshman Brooklynn Root (P/1B) started and allowed five runs over 4.1 innings. Freshman Madi Hosbein (IF) took the loss in relief, while Dugan also pitched in the game.
