KVCC tops Glen Oaks women in finale

Closing out the season Tuesday on the road, the Glen Oaks women's basketball team kept pace with host Kalamazoo Valley until the final 10 minutes of the game but eventually fell, 48-38.
Tied 34-34 heading into the fourth quarter, the Cougars held GOCC to four points the rest of the way. Kalamazoo Valley edged Glen Oaks 10-6 at the free throw line and held a 14-4 advantage in points off turnovers.
Sarah DeKoning finished her GOCC career with a 12-point effort, Kaytlin Smith had eight points, and Morgan Kurdziel and Kamryn Washington each finished with seven. Abby Youmans and Lilyana Coleman chipped in two points apiece. Kurdziel, also playing her last game as a Viking, pulled down 14 rebounds.
Glen Oaks finished the year 9-17 overall and 1-11 in Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Conference play. Kalamazoo Valley improved to 8-16 and 4-8 to wrap up the year.
