Lady Vikings come up short vs. LMC
Partee paces GOCC with 14 points.
After tying things up at halftime, The Lake Michigan College women's basketball team pulled away late for a 53-43 MCCAA Western Conference victory over Glen Oaks Saturday. With renovations to the athletics facility at GOCC still underway, the Vikings hosted the league contest at Camden Hall at Firm Foundation Ministries.
And head coach Emilee Hendron's squad felt right at home early on, building an 18-8 lead by the 7:15 mark in the second quarter. But LMC would go on a 12-2 run to close out the first half and tie the game at 20-20.
Viking sophomore Jordyn Partee scored 9 of her team-high 14 points before intermission. Tayler Denton heated up after the break with all eight of her points coming in the second half, which included two 3-pointers.
Lake Michigan (5-7, 1-0) started the third quarter where it left off and drained a triple for its first lead of the game. Braylyn Hernandez logged a pair of field goals, Denton connected from deep and made a pair of free throws, and Partee had three points in the frame to end the quarter down 33-32.
Saving its best stretch of productivity for last, LMC racked up a 20-point fourth quarter, which included a 9-for-12 effort at the foul line, to get out of town with a win.
Leigha Shudell knocked down triples in the first and fourth quarters en route to 7 points, and Hernandez and Zy'Asija Scott each finished with six points. Kennedy Lockett added two points for the Vikings, who slipped to 5-11 overall and 0-2 in the MCCAA Western Conference.
Full individual stats were not available at the time of publication. Glen Oaks travels to Ancilla College Monday in a makeup game from Jan. 14.
