The Glen Oaks Community College baseball team split an MCCAA Western Conference doubleheader with Lake Michigan College on Wednesday at Glen Oaks Community College, winning Game 1, 11-4, before falling 15-8 in Game 2.
Game 1
Glen Oaks used a seven-run sixth inning to pull away for an 11-4 victory over Lake Michigan College in the opener.
Sophomore outfielder Braeden Becker (CF) scored three runs and reached base four times to pace the offense. Sophomore infielder Caleb Mallory (SS) scored three times and drove in two runs, while sophomore infielder Erick Marin (1B) went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Freshman Oliver Nisen (DH) added three RBIs, and freshman infielder Teegan Helmle (3B) contributed two RBIs.
The Vikings broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the third inning, then added two more in the fifth before erupting for seven runs in the sixth to take control.
Sophomore pitcher Jayden Sloniker earned the win, allowing two runs on six hits over 5.1 innings with six strikeouts. Freshman Ryne Maag and freshman Reed Nelson combined to close out the game.
Game 2
Lake Michigan College responded with a 15-8 win in Game 2, using a nine-run seventh inning to secure the split.
Glen Oaks jumped out early, scoring four runs in the second inning. Sophomore Erick Marin (1B) drove in three runs, while freshman Jace Gray (2B) scored twice. Sophomore Braeden Becker (CF) added two stolen bases and scored once.
The Vikings extended their lead with four more runs in the sixth inning to tie the game at 8-8 before Lake Michigan broke through in the seventh.
Freshman Kaleb Williams started on the mound for Glen Oaks, followed by sophomore Travis North, sophomore Collin Yoder, freshman Ryne Maag, and freshman Caden Hall.
